Gasper's Barbershop Installation

On June 13, 2009 Factoría de Santos was invited by the Eyelevel BQE Gallery to be part of "A toast to Crest and to art at unusual places!" As part of the event, Factoría de Santos and Eyelevel BQE made an altar at Gaspar's Barbershop located a few blocks from the gallery. The altar was placed in the front window of Gaspar's Barbershop. The altar consisted of small San Honesto figurines, artificial flowers, mezcal, candles and praying cards for people to take home while they waited to get their haircut.
The barbershop is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn an area predominantly inhabited by people of Italian descent; it is their custom to display virgins, saints, artificial flowers and Lladró figurines in their front windows. The idea behind the installation was to imitate these window displays and exhibit San Honesto. The window exhibit managed to arise the curiosity of people who frequented the barbershop as well as neighbors. At the end of the week there were only a few praying cards left, the ones taken spread honesty in the neighborhood.
We thank Eyelevel BQE Gallery for the invitation, Gaspar for letting Factoría de Santos display San Honesto in his front window (we hope he enjoys his mezcal) and all the neighbors who now believe in themselves.
